Whatever the case, people with excess skin in this area may feel self-conscious or insecure about the way their body looks. They may also experience discomfort associated with excess skin, such as chafing, skin rashes, and in some cases infection.

Thigh lift surgery aims to remove the excess, unwanted tissue and restore a more ideal body contour. Both male and female patients can then achieve a smoother and more comfortable thigh shape. Dr Jeremy Richardson ensures each patient receives treatment tailored to their specific needs.

What is a Thigh Lift?

Thigh lift surgery is a popularly requested cosmetic procedure. It removes unwanted skin and fat from the area in order to reshape the thighs and create a more ideal aesthetic. The surgery can address both the inner and outer thighs, and multiple techniques are available, depending on the patient and their needs. If you are concerned about excess skin due to ageing or weight loss, this surgery could be an ideal option for you. The procedure helps patients to achieve:

  • Smoother, tighter skin around the thighs
  • Reduction in excess fat deposits
  • Improves the overall leg shape
  • Reduced rubbing, chafing, and stretch marks

What to Expect During Your Consultation

An initial consultation will take place before your surgery. This will allow us to gather information about your health and goals in order to develop a suitable treatment plan. You will need to tell Dr Richardson about your medical history, any previous surgeries, and your hopes for thigh lift surgery. He will explain your surgical options and talk you through the process so that you can gain an understanding of what to expect.

Generally, good candidates for the procedure are healthy, non-smokers, and have maintained a stable weight for at least three months. If you are unsure whether the procedure is right for you, we can clarify this during your meeting with us.

The Procedure

Typically, thigh lift surgery is performed in a hospital using a general anaesthetic. It can take between two and four hours to complete, depending on the complexity.

Dr Richardson will make incisions according to the surgical plan outlined during your consultation. This may involve an incision at the top of the thigh near the groin area. In some cases, you may also have a vertical incision running from the groin down towards the knee. These methods allow us to remove excess skin and fat tissue from the area in order to create the desired shape and skin firmness. For some patients, this procedure can be combined with liposuction to help remove your unwanted fat. Once Dr Richardson has reshaped the tissue and removed your excess skin, he will close the incisions with sutures.

Cost of a Thigh Lift

There are several factors to consider when it comes to the fee for thigh lift surgery. Since every patient has a different body shape and amount of excess skin, we outline fees on a case-by-case basis. They will depend on factors such as hospital fees, anaesthetist fees, and your post-op care. As well as this, the duration and extent of your surgery can impact the total fee. Therefore, if you have questions about fees, we can answer these after discussing your requirements.

Aftercare

After your thigh lift surgery, it is normal to have some pain and swelling on the inner thighs and groin area. It is important to take time to rest and follow Dr Richardson’s instructions on how to achieve the best possible recovery. This can include advice such as:

  • Take prescribed painkillers in order to ease your recovery
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol, since these can inhibit the healing process
  • Wear compression clothing to support your healing skin
  • Refrain from all strenuous physical activity for several weeks
  • Eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water
  • Consult Dr Richardson if you notice any healing problems

It may also be a good idea to have someone help you with daily tasks and house chores during the first couple of weeks. Throughout your recovery, you will be able to gradually resume your normal activities. Thigh lift patients can generally expect:

  • Mild side effects such as pain and swelling are normal
  • Gentle walking can be resumed after one week
  • Resume non-strenuous work and driving after two to three weeks
  • Return to a regular exercise routine after six to eight weeks

Risks and Complications

Although rare, there are risks associated with every surgical procedure. Before you decide to go ahead with surgery, it is important to do your research and understand the risks involved. For example, risks of thigh lift surgery can include:

  • Ongoing pain and swelling
  • Poor healing
  • Large scars
  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Damage to underlying tissues
  • Unwanted outcomes
  • Further surgery to correct issues

If you experience any severe or lasting effects after surgery, you should seek medical attention straight away.
