You will be advised if the procedure(s) include a Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item number with an accompanying rebate. Medicare item numbers and rebates can change with minimal notice, and you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate even if you do not have private health insurance.
For patients with private health insurance, the fund’s rebate is set by the insurer and depends on your level of coverage. Please contact your health fund prior to your procedure to check your coverage and confirm if you are eligible for a rebate. You should also check if any excess, gap, co-payment fees or out-of-pocket expenses are to be paid.
Cosmetic procedures do not attract a rebate from Medicare or your private health insurer.
Self-insured patients are required to pay the costs incurred prior to the day of surgery.
