Over time, genetics, age, and other factors cause creases and descending skin in the neck. Weight gain and loss and sun damage can also contribute to wrinkling of the neck skin.

Male neck lift surgery is tailored to the patient and their needs.

What is a Male Neck Lift?

A male neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to change the appearance of the neck and jawline by removing excess skin, tightening underlying muscles, and sometimes reducing excess fat. This procedure aims to address signs of ageing, such as descending skin and muscle laxity.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

Since every patient has different requirements, you will need to consult with Dr Richardson before the procedure. He will examine your level of skin laxity and wrinkles to begin outlining the treatment plan. This way, you will be able to ask any questions and gain an understanding of your surgical options.

Additionally, we will inquire about your health, previous surgeries, and current medications. Suitable candidates for the procedure have creases and descending skin in the neck due to ageing and other factors.

The Procedure

Male neck lift procedures are typically performed in a hospital setting under general anaesthesia. The duration of the surgery can vary depending on the specific needs of the patient, but it generally takes around four hours to complete. During your initial consultation, we will discuss which surgical methods are appropriate for your case. The procedure involves tightening the platysma muscles and redraping the skin. In some cases, liposuction may be used to remove excess fat from under the chin. Once the procedure is complete, Dr Richardson will close the incisions with stitches.

Cost of a Male Neck Lift

As every surgical procedure is unique, the fees may vary depending on the individual patient. The charges for the surgery will be determined by the amount of excess or lax skin and other specific details of the surgical procedure you choose. Additionally, we need to consider the cost of the anaesthesiologist, hospital fees, and other aftercare expenses, such as medication. Understanding that the cost of surgery can be a delicate matter, we would be happy to answer any further questions during a private consultation with you.

Aftercare

Following a male neck lift, you may have some discomfort, but we can help you manage this with pain medication. Most of the discomfort will subside within the first few days, but you should still rest and take care of your incisions until you fully recover. You may also have some numbness and stiffness, which will resolve over time. Dr Richardson will give you at-home care instructions, such as:

  • Sleep on your back with your upper body raised
  • Take time off work to recover
  • Wear a compression garment for six weeks
  • Keep your incisions and bandages clean and dry
  • Drink water and eat a healthy diet
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise
  • Take prescribed medication
  • Inform Dr Richardson if any issues arise

Adhering to these guidelines will help your incisions heal well. Generally, patients may:

  • Feel some soreness and tightness for the first few days
  • Resume light, non-strenuous activities after three to five days.
  • Return to work after two weeks; however, if your work requires heavy lifting or strenuous tasks, you may need more time to recover at home.
  • Resume a normal exercise routine after six to eight weeks.

Risks and Complications

There are always risks to be aware of when considering surgery. We will explain the risks of male neck lift surgery before the procedure so you are fully informed. Risks include:

  • Pain and swelling
  • Anaesthesia reactions
  • Bleeding
